The adult beetle is relatively small, measuring approximately 3 to 4 millimeters in length. Its body has an oval shape and is covered with dense, short hairs, which often give the insect a grayish or brownish appearance, helping it blend into the environment.
The larvae are typical of the family, being legless, C-shaped grubs with a creamy-white color. They possess strong mandibles adapted for burrowing into hard seed coats and consuming the nutrient-rich interior of the legume seeds.
Female beetles lay their eggs directly on the surface of developing or mature bean pods. The eggs are cemented to the surface, providing protection and ensuring that the newly hatched larvae can immediately bore into the seed.
Identification often requires careful examination of the male genitalia, as external morphology alone can be misleading due to the presence of closely related species within the genus Kytorhinus in various geographical regions.
What it damages

Survival rates during winter are heavily dependent on environmental conditions. Mild winters with stable moisture levels often result in higher pest survival, leading to increased population pressure during the subsequent growing season.
Signs of infestation
Initial signs of an infestation include the presence of tiny, flattened eggs attached to the pod surface. These can be difficult to spot without careful inspection of the developing crop in the field.

In storage facilities, rigorous hygiene is essential. Keeping grain dry and stored in insect-proof containers prevents cross-infestation. Fumigation can be used if an infestation is detected in stored seed lots to prevent further spread.
Early harvest is also a key strategy. Removing the crop from the field as soon as it reaches maturity prevents the beetles from completing their life cycle and emerging to infest neighboring plants or stored products.
