The first-instar nymphs, known as crawlers, represent the most mobile life stage. These nymphs are capable of actively dispersing across the plant or being carried by air currents and gardening tools, leading to rapid spread within a collection.

This species is specifically adapted to greenhouse environments, thriving in protected tropical conditions. The waxy secretion produced by the mealybug serves as a protective barrier against many environmental stresses and various contact insecticides.

The taxonomy of this species requires precise identification, as its morphological characteristics frequently overlap with other members of the genus Pseudococcus, necessitating microscopic examination for accurate verification.

What it damages
