Hall's mealybug (Planococcus halli) is a member of the Pseudococcidae family, known for its distinct waxy, mealy-like white covering. Adult females are oval-shaped and wingless, maintaining a sedentary lifestyle while feeding.
The life cycle involves several stages: egg, nymph (crawler), and adult. The mobile nymph stage, known as the 'crawler', is crucial for the dispersal of the pest throughout the host plant and to adjacent trees.
Males are significantly different, appearing as small, winged insects capable of flight, which allows them to locate sedentary females for reproduction. However, they possess vestigial mouthparts and do not feed.
