The adult females are generally sedentary, remaining fixed on the plant tissue. They have an oval, segmented body with numerous setae (fine hairs) along the margins, which are often used for taxonomic identification.
The mobile stage of this pest is the first instar nymph, often referred to as a "crawler." These tiny creatures are responsible for spreading the infestation to new leaves or neighboring plants within the greenhouse environment.
Identification of Paraputo guatemalensis often requires microscopic examination of the cerarii and other morphological features to distinguish it from similar species within the mealybug family.

What it damages

Plants may exhibit signs of general stress, such as yellowing leaves, tip dieback, or even complete defoliation if the infestation remains untreated for a prolonged period.
