The first-instar nymphs, known as crawlers, are the primary mobile stage. They are very small, lack the heavy waxy coating, and actively move across the plant to find suitable feeding sites, facilitating the spread of the population.

Males are rarely observed, as they are small, winged, and have a short lifespan dedicated primarily to reproduction. The females remain on the plant throughout their reproductive life, often hidden in sheltered areas.
