When the temperature drops below +10 degrees Celsius, metabolic processes slow down, and the wasp enters a state of dormancy. In unheated granaries, activity is minimal during winter.

Spring warming activates both the wasp and its hosts. During this period, mass emergence of adult individuals from their pupation sites occurs.

The number of generations per year depends on the infestation level of the warehouse and the speed of the host pest cycle that T. formiciformis feeds upon.

Signs of infestation

The main sign of infestation is the discovery of adult individuals on the surface of the grain pile or near window frames in storage areas.

The presence of microscopic holes in grains, left by primary pest larvae, serves as an indirect indicator of the potential presence of this wasp.
