The life cycle is influenced by environmental factors such as high temperature and humidity, which trigger rapid development through larval and nymphal stages.
A notable feature is the ability to form a hypopus stage, a dormant form that resists desiccation and chemical treatments, ensuring survival under stress.
They thrive in environments where organic dust, moisture, and high humidity are present, often populating cracks and crevices in storage buildings.
What it damages
Suidasia primarily attacks stored grains, flours, dried fruits, and various oilseeds, causing considerable economic damage to agricultural commodities.
They feed on the nutritious components of grains, particularly the germ, which significantly reduces the germination rate of seeds intended for planting.
