The common crane fly (Nephrotoma ferruginea) belongs to the order Diptera and the family Tipulidae. Adult crane flies resemble large mosquitoes with long, spindly, fragile legs.
Adults exhibit a characteristic rusty-yellow coloration with distinct dark markings on the thorax. They possess long antennae and transparent wings with a visible vein network.
The larvae, known as "leatherjackets" due to their tough, leathery skin, are cylindrical, legless, and typically greyish-brown in color.

What it damages
