The throat bot fly (Gasterophilus nasalis) is a dipteran insect belonging to the family Oestridae. Adult flies resemble bees, having a fuzzy appearance and vestigial mouthparts, as they do not feed during their adult stage.

The life cycle is characterized by complete metamorphosis. Females deposit eggs on the hairs of the host animal, particularly in the intermandibular region and along the throat.

Once the larvae hatch, they migrate into the oral cavity of the host. They attach themselves to the mucous membranes, where they undergo initial development stages.

After migrating to the stomach and the duodenum, the larvae develop further, reaching a size of approximately 1.5–2 cm and adopting a characteristic barrel shape.

Mature larvae eventually detach from the digestive tract, pass out with the animal's feces, and pupate in the soil before emerging as adult flies to restart the cycle.
