Damage symptoms vary based on the species; some larvae are external leaf-feeders that cause extensive foliage loss, while others are leaf miners that create tunnels within the leaf structure. The resulting impact includes reduced photosynthesis, stunted plant growth, and diminished fruit quality, leaving the plants vulnerable to environmental stress and secondary infections.
Integrated pest management (IPM) is essential for effective control. Cultural practices such as soil cultivation under the canopy disrupt the pupal stage, while manual removal of infested plant parts can reduce the population. Chemical control involves the application of appropriate insecticides during the early larval development stage, as older larvae are significantly more resistant to treatment.
