Peripatids (Peripatidae) are fascinating members of the Onychophora phylum, often described as a evolutionary link between annelids and arthropods. While they are generally not considered significant agricultural pests, their presence in greenhouse environments or humid tropical farms can sometimes complicate the management of organic soil substrates.

These organisms are nocturnal predators that thrive in environments with high humidity and abundant decomposing organic matter. They are typically found in soil, under leaf litter, or within decaying logs. In an agricultural setting, their presence is almost exclusively an indicator of an overly damp, stagnant growing environment.
The biology of Peripatidae is characterized by slow growth and, in many cases, viviparous reproduction. Being carnivorous, they feed on small insects, termites, and other soil-dwelling invertebrates. This predatory nature suggests that they might actually provide minor biological control services against other soil pests, rather than being primary consumers of plant matter.
Regarding potential harm, peripatids are not herbivorous. They do not feed on leaves, stems, or fruits.
