Coreid bugs primarily attack leguminous crops, cereals, and various fruit-bearing trees. By targeting both vegetative parts and developing seeds or fruits, these pests can cause severe damage to commercial plantations, often leading to yield losses if left uncontrolled during the early stages of plant development.

The biological cycle of these bugs consists of incomplete metamorphosis: egg, nymph, and adult. They typically overwinter as adults in protected environments such as debris or soil. As the temperature rises in the spring, they emerge to mate and lay eggs on host plants, with nymphs undergoing several molts before reaching maturity.

The damage caused by Clavidae is a result of their piercing-sucking mouthparts. When they feed, they inject toxic saliva into the plant, which leads to tissue necrosis, malformation of fruits and seeds, and overall stunted growth. In severe cases, the entire plant may become unmarketable due to the resulting deformities and yellowing.

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is essential for controlling these insects. Key strategies include maintaining field sanitation to remove overwintering sites, utilizing mechanical traps in smaller plots, and applying selective insecticides when population densities cross defined economic thresholds. Consistent monitoring during the flowering stage is critical to prevent widespread damage.
