Adults are generally yellowish or brownish in color, featuring a slender body and fringe-like wings. They are highly mobile and easily carried by air currents across long distances.
The life cycle encompasses several stages: egg, two larval instars, prepupa, pupa, and adult. Some stages occur on the foliage, while others may take place in the soil or growing medium.
They possess mouthparts designed for rasping and sucking, which allows them to efficiently feed on plant fluids within the tissue layers.
High reproductive rates are characteristic of this species, especially in warm climates or greenhouse environments where generations can overlap continuously.
What it damages
As a polyphagous pest, Frankliniella cephalica attacks a wide array of vegetable crops, ornamental flowers, and fruit trees, causing significant economic damage.
