Managing Mite Infestations: Practical Field Experience with Taurus

For fruit growers, controlling mite populations on apple trees and grapevines is a constant challenge. Our recent experience with the Taurus insecticide-acaricide, manufactured by Sunrise Chemicals Co. Ltd., proves it to be a highly effective contact-action tool. When dealing with brown, red, or spider mites, precision and proper application are key.

Operational Efficiency and Handling

Taurus comes in water-dispersible granules, which is a major advantage for field operators. The product dissolves completely, ensuring there are no clogs in spray nozzles. Since the product works via contact, thorough foliage coverage during vegetative spraying is essential for maximum efficacy. We have found that following the recommended dosage of 0.5–0.9 kg/ha provides consistent control over various mite life stages.

Key Guidelines for Application

• Application Limits: A maximum of two treatments per season is permitted. To ensure crop safety, we strictly adhere to the 30-day pre-harvest interval.
• Performance: The active ingredient, Pyridaben, provides rapid knockdown of mites. We have observed significant reduction in mite activity shortly after the spray dries on the leaves.
• Safety First: As this is a Class 2 hazard product, strict adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols is mandatory during both mixing and spraying phases.
