A Double Strike Against Fungal Pathogens

When late blight or downy mildew hits the field, time is against the grower. Acidan is a proven systemic-contact tool that I use as "heavy artillery" for potatoes and tomatoes. The combination of metalaxyl and mancozeb provides exactly the effect needed for protection during periods of active growth: the contact component creates a shield on the leaf surface, while the systemic component penetrates deep inside, protecting even new growth that appears after spraying.

Field Experience and Handling

The product comes in the form of a wettable powder. It is easy to handle: it is stable, dissolves well, and does not clog the sprayer nozzles. An important aspect for any operator is the absence of aggressive residue in the tank, which significantly saves time when cleaning equipment after a shift.

• Efficacy: Excellent control of alternaria and downy mildew on grapes.
• Flexibility: Up to three treatments per season allow for stopping epiphytotics during the most critical phases.
• Safety: Classified as hazard class 3, which is standard for such fungicides, but requires strict adherence to the waiting period—20 days before harvest.

The main advantage of Acidan for me is the ability to contain pathogens that have already started to develop. Metalaxyl quickly blocks the fungus's metabolism, and mancozeb "seals" the success. The key is not to miss the timing and to monitor the crop's condition. If the weather is damp and warm, I use it as a preventative measure, and in 90% of cases, this allows preserving the market quality of the harvest without losses.
