Symptoms
Stereocaulon typically appears as shrubby, coral-like, or squamulose growths found on the bark of trunks and branches.
The thallus often exhibits a branched, greyish or whitish structure, which distinguishes it from crustose lichens.
They are predominantly found on mature or weakened trees that have accumulated old, slow-growing bark.
These organisms can be easily scraped off the surface of the bark without damaging the living cambium or wood.
The presence of Stereocaulon is often associated with other epiphytic growth, such as mosses, indicating a humid microclimate.
Pathogen
Stereocaulon lichens (Stereocaulaceae) are not plant pathogens and do not cause infectious diseases in agricultural crops.
