As the disease advances, multiple spots may coalesce, covering significant portions of the leaf blade. This extensive damage leads to premature yellowing (chlorosis) and subsequent leaf fall, which significantly reduces the foliage density.
Affected leaves may curl or deform, particularly when the infection is severe, impacting the overall health and vigor of the individual tea bush.
The disease usually manifests in the lower and middle canopy layers, where shading and limited airflow create an environment conducive to fungal development.
