Description

Symptoms

A distinctive white, fuzzy fungal mat often develops on the infected skin of the pod, especially during periods of high humidity and rainfall.

The infection penetrates the husk and reaches the beans, causing internal rot and a characteristic unpleasant fermented odor.

Canker development on the trunks and branches is another sign, manifested as deep, weeping lesions that exude a reddish-brown liquid.

Pathogen

This organism belongs to the same genus as other Phytophthora species that cause black pod rot, but exhibits unique morphological features during spore production.
