Description

Symptoms

The presence of tiny black dots in the center of these lesions, which are the pycnidia of the fungus, serves as a primary diagnostic indicator.

Severe infestations can lead to extensive defoliation, where leaves yellow and drop prematurely, impacting the plant's photosynthetic capacity.

The disease may also spread to bracts and young bolls, sometimes causing lesions that affect the overall development of the cotton fruit.

Conditions for development

Poor field hygiene, specifically leaving plant residues on the soil surface, provides a continuous inoculum source for subsequent seasons.

Plants subjected to nutrient imbalances, particularly high nitrogen levels with low potassium, often exhibit increased susceptibility to fungal invasion.

Continuous heavy rainfall during the late vegetative and flowering stages significantly accelerates the epidemic development of the leaf spot.
