The fungus is a necrotrophic parasite that typically invades living tissues through mechanical wounds, frost cracks, or improper pruning cuts.
Once inside, the mycelium spreads rapidly throughout the cambium and phloem layers, obstructing the translocation of nutrients and water.
The pathogen is particularly opportunistic, thriving on trees that have already been weakened by environmental stress or secondary pests.
Conditions for development
