Symptoms

On stems and branches, the fungus causes sunken cankers. These lesions can girdle the stem, restricting the flow of water and nutrients, which ultimately leads to the wilting and eventual death of the affected plant part.
During periods of high humidity, the centers of the lesions produce characteristic pinkish or creamy spore masses. These are the fruiting bodies of the fungus, which serve as secondary sources of inoculum for further spread.
Infected fruits display circular, sunken dark spots that quickly spread. These areas of infection often become covered with a gelatinous substance during wet weather, leading to the rapid decay of the fruit.
