Symptoms

A characteristic symptom is the formation of deep necrotic cankers on the trunk. Upon removing the bark layer, one can observe dark, almost black wood that often emits a distinct, decaying odor.

General growth stunting becomes apparent within one season following the initial infection. The pecan tree stops producing sufficient new growth and shows a significant decline in yields.

In the final stages, the cambium dies, resulting in the death of the tree within a few years unless radical measures are taken to remove the sources of infection.
