Symptoms

The most visible sign is the sudden wilting and blackening of leaves on young shoots during the spring season as the tree starts its growth phase.

Leaves on infected branches often remain attached to the tree long after they have died, giving the tree a scorched or fire-damaged appearance.

In humid conditions, a characteristic bacterial ooze or sticky substance may be observed on the bark surface or near the margins of the necrotic lesions.
