Description

Symptoms

Diagnostic signs appear on the dead needles as small, black, elongated fruit bodies aligned along the midrib. These are easily distinguished from other needle cast fungi based on their size and position.

Significant needle drop usually occurs during mid-to-late summer, leaving the branches bare. This reduction in the photosynthetic area puts substantial stress on the tree's metabolism.

In severe cases, the entire tree may appear stunted, and repeated annual infections can lead to branch dieback or even the mortality of young, vulnerable specimens.
