Sowing dates

Dioscorides houndstongue is a member of the Boraginaceae family. The most effective sowing time is late autumn, allowing the seeds to undergo natural winter stratification, which enhances germination rates in early spring.

Spring sowing is also possible provided the soil temperature reaches at least 6–8 degrees Celsius. Seeds should be placed at a depth of 2–3 centimeters to ensure optimal soil moisture contact.

Proper spacing is crucial for healthy development. It is recommended to maintain row spacing of approximately 50 centimeters, which provides sufficient space for the root system to expand.

The seeds have a characteristic hooked surface, so precise calibration of sowing equipment is necessary to ensure an even distribution across the field and prevent overcrowding.

Seedlings typically appear within 2–3 weeks. Early weeding and thinning are essential during the initial growth stage to reduce competition and improve overall plant vigor.

Growing requirements
