The species originates from the rainforests of Southeast Asia, specifically Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. It thrives in an equatorial climate, requiring high humidity and consistently warm temperatures throughout the year. It cannot tolerate frost or prolonged cold spells, which limits its cultivation to specific tropical zones.

The tree prefers deep, well-draining, and nutrient-rich soils. Since it is highly susceptible to root rot, ensuring that the planting site has excellent drainage is paramount for successful cultivation. Soil acidity should ideally be maintained within a neutral to slightly acidic range for optimal nutrient uptake.

Sunlight is a critical requirement for this species. While seedlings benefit from partial shade to protect them from intense solar radiation, mature trees need full sunlight to promote photosynthesis and support the energy-intensive process of flowering and fruit production.

Agricultural management involves regular maintenance of the root zone, including mulching to retain soil moisture and suppress weed growth. Supplemental irrigation is necessary during dry spells to ensure steady growth, especially for younger trees establishing their root systems in the ground.
