Silene marcowiczii is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family. It is recognized as a rare endemic species, primarily found in the rugged, high-altitude mountain regions of the Caucasus, where it occupies specialized ecological niches.
The plant is biologically adapted to harsh alpine conditions, typically thriving on rocky slopes, screes, and limestone outcrops. These environments provide the necessary microclimate for the species to survive, characterized by high light intensity and significant temperature fluctuations.
Regarding soil requirements, Silene marcowiczii necessitates exceptionally well-drained, porous substrates. In a cultivated or semi-wild context, it requires a growing medium that mimics its natural habitat—typically rocky, mineral-rich, and neutral to slightly alkaline soil.
The species is highly sensitive to moisture management. Stagnant water around the root system is detrimental, often leading to rapid decline. Therefore, its distribution is strictly limited to areas where surface runoff prevents soil waterlogging during the growing season.
