Rhabdoweisia crenulata is a species of acrocarpous moss belonging to the family Dicranaceae. This plant typically forms dense, dark green cushions or mats, primarily colonizing humid and shaded rock faces, which makes it an essential part of the epilithic bryophyte community.
Botanically, the species is defined by its small, erect stems and distinctive lanceolate leaves with crenulate or serrulate margins, particularly in the upper portion of the leaf. These morphological traits distinguish it from other members of the Rhabdoweisia genus.
The geographic distribution of this moss spans temperate regions across the Northern Hemisphere. It is most commonly found in damp mountainous areas, sheltered gorges, and rocky crevices where humidity levels remain consistently high throughout the growing season.
Environmental requirements for Rhabdoweisia crenulata are quite strict, as the plant is highly sensitive to atmospheric pollutants and desiccation. It thrives in locations with constant moisture, often near waterfalls or in deep ravines where it is protected from direct sunlight and harsh winds.
