Oedicladium is a genus of pleurocarpous mosses belonging to the family Meteoriaceae. These plants are known for their distinctively branching stems, which often create a pendulous or creeping growth form, adapted to colonizing various substrates in humid tropical and subtropical forests.

The native distribution of Oedicladium is largely concentrated in East and Southeast Asia. These mosses thrive in high-humidity environments, typically found in mountainous regions where fog and rainfall occur consistently, supporting the physiological needs of the bryophyte community.

Regarding environmental requirements, Oedicladium demands stable, filtered light conditions. Excessive sun exposure is detrimental, as the species lack specialized structures to prevent rapid desiccation, making them dependent on the shade provided by forest canopy layers.

In their natural habitat, these mosses establish themselves on tree bark, decayed logs, or damp rocky surfaces. They do not rely on soil nutrients in the traditional sense, but rather absorb moisture and minerals directly from the air and water runoff passing over the substrate surface.
