This species is strictly heliophilic, meaning it requires full sun exposure to maintain its compact, carpet-like appearance. If planted in partial shade, the stems tend to stretch, resulting in a thin and unattractive habit.

The climate requirements include moderate temperatures and good air circulation. While it handles drought well once established, it prefers to avoid areas with extremely high humidity paired with excessive heat.

Avoid excessive fertilization, particularly nitrogen-rich feeds. High nutrient levels encourage lush, weak growth that reduces the plant’s winter hardiness and its overall longevity in the garden setting.

Fungal diseases are the primary threat, often caused by stagnant water or poor air movement. Root rot is a common issue if the planting site does not have adequate drainage properties.

Powdery mildew can infect foliage during seasons characterized by high humidity and fluctuating temperatures. Ensuring proper spacing and airflow helps keep the foliage dry and healthy throughout the growing season.

Aphids and spider mites may occasionally infest the plants, particularly during dry, hot spells. If significant damage is observed, contact insecticides or biological controls can be implemented to manage populations.

Slugs and snails can consume young, succulent leaves, especially during rainy weather. Physical barriers or eco-friendly baits are effective methods to protect young growth from these mollusks.
