Description

Growing requirements

Calycoseris wrightii, commonly known as the desert dandelion, is an annual herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to the arid regions of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico.

This species thrives in open, sunny environments with well-drained sandy or gravelly soil. It is evolutionarily adapted to survive in extreme desert climates with limited water availability.

The plant requires high solar exposure to complete its life cycle during the short spring flowering season characteristic of the Sonoran and Mojave deserts.

It maintains excellent resilience in nutrient-poor soils, making it a specialized component of the desert ecosystem rather than a traditional agricultural crop.

Botanically, it is recognized by its distinct white or yellow ray flowers and deeply lobed leaves, which serve as an adaptation to reduce transpiration in high-heat conditions.
