Ecological Certificate for Products

The ecological certificate is an official document confirming the ecological safety of goods. Its presence confirms that the content of hazardous components for health and the environment in products does not exceed allowable limits.

Currently, ecological certification in Russia is carried out exclusively on a voluntary basis. This means that any business entity wishing to undergo this procedure may do so at its own initiative.

For what purposes is an ecological certificate issued?

Although eco-certificates are not mandatory regulatory documents, many entrepreneurs are interested in obtaining them for products they manufacture or import. This is an effective sales tool, promoting effective product promotion in the market and providing the following business advantages:

  • increased investment attractiveness of the company;
  • building an environmentally responsible image;
  • stable cooperation with retail networks that value this criterion;
  • advantages in participating in government procurements and commercial tenders.

The presence of an ecological certificate guarantees that the manufacturer produces quality and safe products without harming the environment.

For which products is an ecological certificate most often issued?

There is a misconception that eco-certification is conducted only for food products, produced without using chemicals and compounds – pesticides, antibiotics, agrochemicals. However, in reality, certification according to ecological safety criteria is possible for almost any product:

  • cosmetics and perfumery;
  • construction materials;
  • household chemicals;
  • tableware;
  • accessories;
  • interior items;
  • clothing;
  • footwear and many other items.

In addition, technological processes can also be objects of eco-certification. Such a procedure can be passed if the entrepreneur uses natural raw materials, applies resource-saving technologies during their activities, and treats the environment with care.

What types of ecological certificates exist?

Today, business entities may obtain the following types of ecological certificates:

  1. Bio – issued for products of natural origin that are distinguished by high quality.
  2. Eco – one of the most popular options, which is mandatory in some European countries.
  3. Natural – indicates that the products and materials are made exclusively from natural raw materials.
  4. Organic – confirms that the product is manufactured in accordance with organic production rules.
  5. FSC – issued for products made from wood harvested in accordance with sustainable forestry practices.
  6. ISO 14001 – serves as official confirmation of implementing an eco-safety system at the enterprise.

The entrepreneur independently decides which system to use for assessing product compliance and which certificate to obtain.

How is eco-certification carried out?

The order of conducting assessment activities depends on the type of certified goods and the chosen assessment system. For example, if the certification is for organic production, the following set of activities is carried out:

  1. The product manufacturer submits an application to the certification center "BusinessCertificate".
  2. The company’s specialists contact the client online or by phone to clarify the details of the procedure.
  3. The applicant prepares the necessary set of documents and information and submits them to the center’s experts via email.
  4. Based on the analysis of submitted documentation, a decision is made on the possibility of conducting compliance assessment, and a check plan is prepared.
  5. An expert commission is formed, which visits the production site to conduct an audit – upon completion, an act is prepared.
  6. The authorized body issues a decision on compliance with established requirements – upon positive results, the certificate is issued and handed over to the applicant.

During certification activities, samples of the products are also tested in an accredited laboratory, which allows confirming their quality and safety.

Attention! The procedure for certifying organic production is lengthy (on average, it takes about 6 months) and costly. Therefore, if the volume of manufactured products is insignificant, it is advisable to consider another type of ecological certification.
