Krone's Bale Press Harvesters Have Many Advantages

Unique Capabilities of Krone's Bale Press Harvesters

For baling pressed hay, straw, and silage, bale press harvesters and roll-type models with various channel or chamber sizes are used, where pressing takes place. In private farms and livestock operations with small feedstock volumes, compact bale makers are in demand. The bales they form can be lifted and moved without heavy machinery, making them convenient to operate. Increasing the size of each bale reduces the number of bales, thus reducing the number of operations associated with loading, unloading, and moving. Therefore, for large-scale feedstock preparation, it is more profitable to use large-bale press harvesters, such as Krone’s BiG Pack (Germany).

Advantages of Large-Bale Press Harvesters BiG Pack

Krone’s first large-bale press harvester appeared 30 years ago, in 1993. Today, the company offers several BiG Pack lines with unique features:

  • HDP (High-Density Pressing) technology increases the weight of standard-sized bales by 20%, optimizing logistics costs;
  • HighSpeed generation press harvesters provide higher productivity (+20%) without reducing density;
  • Only Krone offers press harvesters with a 1.3 m channel height (BiG Pack 4x4 series);
  • Active harvester EasyFlow minimizes losses during the collection of grass and stem materials;
  • Equipped with various XCut and VariCut cutting heads with different numbers of knives, as well as a front-mounted shredder PreChop, allowing flexible adjustment of feed structure;
  • Unique variable filling system (VFS) for bale press harvesters;
  • MultiBale tying system allows combining up to 9 small bales into one large-format bale;
  • Option for trailer attachment, enabling unloading bales in groups of 3-5 (depending on channel width), not individually.

EasyFlow picks up every last blade of grass

EasyFlow is an active harvester that requires no control or maintenance (the design lacks a conveyor belt, the most vulnerable and maintenance-intensive component). Five rows of teeth are arranged on the rotating shaft, effectively picking up both heavier and dry, brittle material. Side augers complement the central shaft’s operation, ensuring clean material collection across the entire width of the grab. Another advantage of the active harvester is its wide pressing roller. The rollers that initially gather the cut grass often have uneven thickness, which causes the plant material flow to be interrupted or delayed, forming a jam. The spring-loaded pressing roller of the EasyFlow harvester, whose pressure can be adjusted without tools, ensures uniform distribution of the grass material and steady feed. Additionally, pendulum wheels located on both sides of the harvester copy the terrain, providing high maneuverability during turns and exerting minimal pressure on the turf.

Various chopping options

Before entering the pressing chamber, hay or straw is cut into pieces of specified length, depending on crop characteristics, desired feed structure, or bedding requirements. Krone’s bale press harvesters use various cutting heads and shredders:

  • XCut – allows setting cut length to 44 or 88 mm, activating either full or half set of knives;
  • VariCut – six cutting length options (minimum 22 mm) available, with knives activated in groups from 5 to 51;
  • PreChop – front-mounted shredder, combination of rotary and cutting knives. Cuts straw into 21 mm pieces and simultaneously splits (optimal structure for bedding, as longitudinal splitting of stems increases absorbency).

Krone’s other press harvester components perform their tasks just as flawlessly.
